Respecting Your Father and On Your Relationship with Your Father, by Our Papa

We asked our Papa to write an article on the subject of respecting and honoring your father. We believe that one of the greatest gifts you can give to your father is your obedience and respect. Here is what he had to say.
------------
Dear Young Person:

I trust that you are doing well today.

The Bible says in Ephesians 6:1-3: "Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

I want you to know that I am honored and happy that my dear children have honored me down through the years with their many love letters to me and now through this wonderful website. I imagine that the love letters and notes that I have received from my children now total in the thousands, and each one has blessed my heart in a special way. But most importantly, my heart has been blessed by my children honoring me by showing me respect, and by striving to obey me when I tell them to do the right thing.

Let me let you in on a little secret--here's how to get any good thing that you want from your father:

  1. Show him love and respect by having a cheerful attitude and doing what he tells you to do.
  2. Love and respect your mother.
  3. Love and care for your siblings. Be nice to them.
  4. Show him that you are responsible by getting up on time and by doing your chores without being told to do them.
  5. Take your school work seriously and do your very best in school.
  6. When your father or mother does something nice for you or give you something, always let them know how much you appreciate it by saying, 'Thank you.'
  7. Learn how to talk to your father by writing down questions and statements that you want to talk with him about when it is just the two of you taking a walk or going for a boat ride, etc.

These are just a few thoughts on how to be a real blessing to your father so that he can be free in his spirit to be a real blessing to you and so that you can laugh and have fun together all of the time.

May the Lord bless you as you be a blessing to your father.
